He married Ann Elizabeth Brady in St Peter & Paul Church, Gawler, South Australia, 31 August 1879. Ann was born Gawler, South Australia 22 April 1858. Ann was the daughter of Owen Brady and Mary O'Neil.

Alfred Sweeney and Ann Elizabeth Brady had the following children:

37 i. Herbert Neal⁴ Sweeney was born 1881. Herbert died 13 December1887 Gawler, South Australia, at 6 years of age.

38 ii. Algeron Cecil Sweeney was born Gawler, South Australia 8 June 1886. Algeron died 16 February 1951 at 64 years of age. His body was interred 28 February 1951 in Willaston Cemetery, Willaston, South Australia. He married Elsie Pearl Freeman in Methodist Manse, Morphett Street, Adelaide, South Austalia, 18 July 1908. Elsie was born 1889. Elsie was the daughter of William Robert Freeman and Rosetta Causby. Elsie died 20 January 1966 at 76 years of age. Her body was interred 23 January 1966 in Willaston Cemetery, Willaston, South Australia. Known as "Algie" and when married gave his name as "Algie"
