6. William Mitchell2 Brown (Stephen1) was born in Kooringa, South Australia 18 March 1850. William died 11 March 1931 in Gawler, South Australia, at 80 years of age.

He married Sophia Reed in Moonta Mines, South Australia, 17 September 1869. Sophia was born in Cornwall, United Kingdom 7 April 1852. Sophia was the daughter of John Reed and Mary Maria Nettle. Sophia died 31 October 1924 in Gawler, South Australia, at 72 years of age. In 1901-1928 the only new industrial developments in Gawler were the clothing factory in Union Street built in 1914 and the egg-packing business of W. M. Brown, elsewhere there was decline and closure. In 1929 the egg packing business was being handled by Horace Theodore Brown.and the business increased job opportunities for local women by which time up to 70 were employed during the factory's peak.
